About Peter Rake

Peter Rake, doyen of Scale models, designs and builds scale models - mainly early types - from the dawn of aviation up to WWII.

The models are characterised by simplicity of design, and build, and are always easy to fly. Peter today specialises in electric models, as this has proved to be a simpler way to power these little museum pieces.

Construction is 'traditional' from balsa and ply sheet, and balsa or hardwood spars, with wire being used for critical parts like cabane struts and undercarriages. Models are typically covered in Litespan or other materials when painted.

How much scale detail you put on is always a matter of choice. These pages list some of the designs that are available, and illustrate each one.

Peter is a regular contributor to Flying Scale Models..and to RCgroups where building threads, discussing the building and flying of his models, appear regularly. Where available, links to these threads accompany the description of each of his designs.

Recently Peter has teamed up with Charlie Bice of Manzano Laser Works to laser cut his designs, and 'short'* kits are available for many of his models.

Plans suitable for those who like to do everything themselves, are available direct from Peter
